The scenario, always the same
Three months after the job, the client reports a crack, a chipped tile, a damp mark. They're in good faith: they hadn't noticed. Neither had you photographed it.
What to photograph before
The general state of the room, existing defects close up, the tricky points: corners, junctions, water inlets, the consumer unit. Two minutes, no more.
During
What will disappear under the finish: a pipe, a cable, a patch of masonry. It's also what helps when the client asks, a year later, where the pipe runs.
Where to keep them
In the job folder, not in the phone's camera roll. A photo lost among three thousand others doesn't exist on the day you need it.
And backup
A lost or reinstalled phone takes the evidence with it. Check your photos have made it somewhere other than the device.
